Our History: A Proud Heritage

The Association for Women in Communications Detroit Chapter represents a long history of championing the advancement of women across all communications disciplines by recognizing excellence, promoting leadership and positioning its members at the forefront of the evolving communications era. For more than 80 years, the Detroit chapter has brought a professionally diverse group of women together for networking and professional development opportunities.

To thrive in the 21st century, our leadership understands that the traditional functions of associations and the methods and tools they use are not as appealing to the next generation of communicators. This target group of members is also interested in “making a difference” in their communities. In an effort to increase and diversify our membership and enliven member engagement, our organization is evolving to help our members stand out in their communications disciplines and incorporate women’s advocacy into our purpose.
